One of three Language Flagships on campus, the Turkish Flagship Program is designed to allow undergraduates to major in any of IU's fields of study while gaining professional proficiency in Turkish. While completing Turkish coursework at IU, students participate in one-on-one tutoring and accelerated summer language study. The program culminates in a Capstone year in Azerbaijan, with overseas study and an internship in a chosen field.
Flexible routes to complete the Flagship Track
The Turkish Flagship curriculum has been designed to be flexible. This allows students to pursue the major of their choice while taking language classes in Turkish and working towards Superior Turkish proficiency.
Students may complete the program in anywhere from 3 to 5 years, depending upon their other academic pursuits. This means that a student planning to graduate on a five-year timeline could begin the program as late as the spring of his or her junior year. We also make special arrangements for heritage students who have a background in a Turkic language. We assist students in applying for scholarships, finding the financial resources to make the Turkish Flagship Program both practical and affordable. Many of our students successfully complete the program and graduate from IU in four years, having spent less than they would have if they had not studied abroad.
